Pines

22 July 2026

I remember a lot of things

About firsts and lasts and spreading wings

But the things that I remember most

Aren’t the things today’s kids would post

They were the things we did a dozen times

Like lemonade stands in the summer time

We’d head down to the busy stop sign

We’d charge a nickel or maybe a dime

Underneath those Pennsylvania pines

After little league games, we’d head to “The Stop”

For a burger and a soda that some called pop

Popping wheelies till the streetlights came on

Jumping ramps until the day was gone

City pool we had a membership

Diving boards, and doing flips

Adult swim when the whistle blew

Grabbed some snacks, don’t run, we knew

Underneath those Pennsylvania pines

I remember a lot of things

About firsts and lasts and spreading wings

But the things that I remember most

Aren't the things today’s kids would post

They were the things we did a dozen times

Shooting BB guns when it wasn’t a crime

We’d grab a couple of cans, set ‘em up in a line

Target practice until lunch time

Underneath those Pennsylvania pines

Church camp volleyball, shirts on the net

Vespers, be quiet, turn off that cassette

Counselors leading songs by the fire

Asking girls to swing on a tire

Christmas morning with mom & dad

We still got presents even though we were bad

Had to eat breakfast before we could start

Eating peanut butter crunch or cold pop tarts

Underneath those Pennsylvania pines

I remember a lot of things

About firsts and lasts and spreading wings

But the things that I remember most

Aren’t the things today’s kids would post

They were the things we did a dozen times

Beach vacations and restaurant lines

We’d bring our clubs, and go play nine

Bad tee shots, yeah, we spent some time

Underneath those Carolina pines

Now we’ve moved down south away from the snow

Near the lake, but we still like to go

To the beach where we can smell those smells

Sand dippers and buckets to keep those shells

Chairs in the water ‘til the tides comes in

We’ll just move back and do it again

We’ll stay in our bubble, without out phones

Until it’s time to leave and head back home

To the life we’ve built when we spread our wings

And we’ll try to remember all those things

Underneath those Carolina pines

I remember a lot of things

About firsts and lasts and spreading wings

But the things that I remember most

Aren't the things today’s kids would post

They were the things we did a hundred times

Like hanging out at home, it’s yours and mine

Let’s grab a couple of drinks and a couple of limes;

We’ll head to the back yard and talk about good times

Underneath these Carolina pines
