Matt Glickstein is a songwriter, teacher, and musician born and raised in Kaneohe, Hawaii. He is a 2006 graduate from the University of Redlands, receiving a Bachelor of Music in Composition, and spent a semester in Salzburg, Austria studying with Austriancomposer Nikolaus Schapfl. Matt also wrote and directed an original musical, Freshmen Follies, for his senior project at the University of Redlands. In 2012, Matt collaborated with students from Lanai High and Elementary School to write and record several songs and music videos, culminating in a CD and DVD called Songs For a Better World. The Singing to the World music video was chosen to be shown worldwide during two Dalai Lama events in Honolulu in April 2012, and Every Day is Earth Day won a national Project Earth 2012 Earth Day Contest. In honor of their accomplishments, Matt and his students were formally recognized by the Maui County Council, and received a Proclamation from Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa. Also a lover of musical theatre and the performing arts, Matt co-founded the Lanai Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) in February of 2013. He co-wrote the music for Island Below the Star, an original children’s musical, with Lanai High and Elementary senior Grant Choo. Since then, he has served as music director for LAPA’s productions of Disney's 101 Dalmatians KIDS and Annie Jr. (2014), Getting to Know...The Sound of Music (2015), LAPA’s Broadway Junior program (2015), and Shrek the Musical (2016).
