I began writing poetry which I realized was good therapy. I then began to dabble in song lyrics. My first songs were long ballads. After a critique I began writing more in line with typical song writing. I've never been trained for this. I get a line in my head and the lyrics just fall onto the screen. My archive consists of roughly 225 songs. Of those I feel that 20 or so would be attractive for someone to put music to. It's probably more than 20, but I'm biased and being honest as possible. A lot of my better songs are Christian and/or contemporary country. Some songs are very deep and meant to touch someone's heart while others can be funny.
