I am a long-time guitarist and lyric writer. I'm learning the craft of creating melodies and song structure, but it's not my strength. I can come up with good songs on my guitar, but putting everything down on paper is something I'm not the best at. I have written lots and lots of lyrics, and have songs (in the form of chord progressions and things I've recorded at home), but I need someone who is strong on the musical side of things to take my rough ideas and lyrics and help put something really good together. I want to emphasize something here; I will want to have a basic collaboration contract between myself (and whomever I work with) before I enter into putting any works together. I'm just mentioning that because that is something I won't let pass by. Nothing terribly complicated, just an agreement stating there is a 50-50 split on ownership, and some other little things for my own legal protection.
