About
Dutch Knickerbocker has been a lyricist since reading the romantic poets in his teenage years and becoming washed in delight by their lyrical sprays and endless waves of joy. Washington Irving and Edgar Allan Poe were favored influences. The folk and rock heroes of the era combined a singular impetus launching his creative attempts as these writers in the genre continue to be revered as major influences in his literary pursuits. Dutch persists in his love of the lyrical craft enamored by the likes of Brian Wilson, Jesse Winchester, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Steve Goodman, Blaze Foley, Jerry Jeff Walker, Dave Van Ronk, and Bob Dylan. In his professional work as an Industrial Engineer Dutch earned a U.S. Patent (Pat.#5,137,190) for a symmetrical window curtain pleating device. Shortly thereafter Dutch developed a pattern matching system for suits and sport coats and was awarded a Foreign Filing Licence in lieu of a utility patent, and published an article on his system for Bobbin Magazine. Now in retirement, Dutch has returned to composing poetry and has expanded the love of songwriting he nurtured in his younger days. He continues to hold popular songwriters as major winds directing his creative ambition. In his past, he enjoyed moderate success writing and performing tapes of his songs with local artists in his hometown and received airplay on a local radio station.

hobby
Songwriting Achievements:
I started writing song lyrics after my discharge from the Army. I wrote with a friend who played local clubs and concerts around New England. I became his road manager and booked gigs for him and was his transportation to and from engagements. He drowned in a boating mishap off Nantucket. I then wrote with another local professional guitar player and instructor. We recorded demo tapes that I sent out to several record producers around the country. I made motorcycle trips from MA to NYC in search of producers and arrangers. I sold myself as a long-haired unknown waiting to be discovered.

I’m waiting for the season thoughts will bud and bloom It’s near the time of year when ideas will bud and bloom. They quickly come and go I feel the changes in the air I’ll wait upon the breeze hoping it turns me on soon.   I know the wind is coming by the

So much is uncertain you can question what’s unsure. Rise above your doubts to capture what you can’t ignore. Rest upon what’s certain and truths on which you’re sure my treasure calls me to endure my Lord, I will endure. Chorus: Of one thing I am sure I w

From what I know of choices, from the chances that were mine, I always picked what fit me best, what suit me at the time. I’m so jelly and so envious you’re playing tricks on me. I’m getting old while you are still  as young and lovely as can be.   If time

Mother Theresa, what do you say? O mother, tell us, “how do you pray?” And when you do, “what is it you say?” “I don’t say anything, I listen,  that's my way.”   “What does the Lord in heaven say unto you? when you are listening, O mother, tell us true!” “

Some days feel just like Christmas back when I was a child. The gifts that I am showered with stay with me quite a while.   May I be thankful all the more may gratitude exceed those requests I have in store for the things I think I need. Chorus: When I cou

I was born into the world upside-down, head-first. At times I can’t tell up from down or best to worse. I’ll still dance at every chance and be the last to leave the ball I’ll tip my hat and bow at the final curtain call.   Then go waltzing Matilda to the

For all the time I’ve lost there is always hope to find A chance to make it right buried in the sands of time. For all the lives that pass away I’ll keep them all in mind Thoughts and points of view follow after their own kind.   In our days we danced upon
