My Spell For Change

Throughout the years, if you were strong,

If you were brave, or spoke against what was wrong.

If you were different, if you had long hair,

Made people point, or perhaps made them stare,

They’d call you a witch and that very day,

They'd torture and kill you, then throw you away.

By my very existence, I stand and defy,

To all you accusers, you know that you lie,

But it matters not, I speak to deaf ears.

So, for all the carnage and for all the years...

Just watch as I weave my spell for change,

And write the words that rearrange,

Voices joined, made into one,

So mote it be, and it is done.

With lifted voices, sing my cry.

Let no more innocent people die,

Be it for the best of all,

With harm to none, let hatred fall.

Let all dear children, shining bright,

Be who they are, follow their light,

Let no one, tell them they are wrong,

But let them sing their unique song.

And for all creatures, big and small,

Be you free from cruelties all,

For the highest good of everyone,

So mote it be, my spell is done.

Four hundred years have past away,

And still they fear us to this day.

Whether grown or still a child,

They fear the female, strong and wild.

They fear the ones with different views,

They dare not walk in different shoes

They say you should not poke the bear,

Least you wake her sleeping there.

But still they accuse and refuse to see,

So if they insist, so mote it be…

Just watch me weave my spell for change,

I’ll write the words that rearrange,

Voices joined, made into one,

So mote it be, and it is done.

With lifted voices, sing my cry.

Let no more innocent people die,

Be it for the best of all,

With harm to none, let hatred fall.

Let all dear children, shining bright,

Be who they are, follow their light,

Let no one, tell them they are wrong,

But let them sing their unique song.

And for all creatures, big and small,

Be you free from cruelties all,

For the highest good of everyone,

So mote it be, my spell is done.

Now every time you sing this song,

You say a prayer to change what's wrong.

And every time you feel the words,

And every time you play the chords,

Your intentions send a beam of light,

Sure and strong into the night.

And someday when all's said and done,

When it’s been sung by everyone,

A change will come for us at last,

And a world at peace, may heal the past.

Dedicated to the victims of the witch trials, and all who have been, and continue to be, persecuted.
