Long, Long Road
Sitting playing tunes on this battered old guitar
Feeling melancholy, feeling blue.
The road of life is long I’ve travelled so far
Things I’ve seen have changed my point of view.
When I started on the road such an angry young man
Thought I knew it all thought I could change the world
But the road it twists and turns and things never go to plan
Seems the more I tried the more it hurt.
It's a long long road that we all travel down
It’s a heavy weight we all carry round
All the burdens of your past, all the wrong you've done
Keeps you going keeps you on the run.
Now I’ve walked the road a while and I’m longer in the tooth
I know experience is just mistakes I’ve made
I know I’m wiser for the road and the truth is still the truth
And you’re better in the light than in the shade,
It's a long long road that we all travel down
It’s a heavy weight we all carry round
All the burdens of your past, all the wrong you've done
Keeps you going keeps you on the run.
And what worries me the most is come my journeys end
When I stand before my maker eye to eye
If I can't say to him I cornered every bend
If I can't say to him oh sweet lord I tried.
It's a long long road that we all travel down
It’s a heavy weight we all carry round
All the burdens of your past, all the wrong you've done
Keeps you going keeps you on the run.
