The sun’s barely up when it starts going down,
The frost and dampness cling everywhere.
It's not so far to get to the mountains;
One day's drive, I'd already be there.
I come home from work, tired and achy
Our place is messy and the couch has a tear.
It’s not so far to get back to my family.
One day’s drive, I’d already be there.
But then I’d miss our intimate dinners,
Of cheese on toast or a shared can of beans.
Miss the way he says, we’ll wash dishes tomorrow,
And I know exactly what he means.
He means, come closer, let’s breathe each other,
Rebuild my soul that the day broke apart
He means, I need your warmth and I’ll give you my body
He means, I need your body and I’ll give you my heart
The roof leaks a little, bills are overdue,
He trips on the shoes that I left on the floor.
He looks up the cost of a plane ticket home,
It’d take all of his cash plus a little bit more.
But then he'd miss our Sunday mornings,
Coffee and oatmeal and cinnamon toast
Miss the way I say let's stay in bed
That's what we'd both miss the most
He means, come closer, let’s breathe each other
Rebuild my soul after the day wiped it out
He means, I need your presence and I’ll bring you mine
Fill me with sureness, replace all my doubt
