Some days are long while others fly
some people stay and some pass by
some watch like strangers, fleeting and alone,
you showed me this it made me sad
that what I miss I’ve never had
how can we miss the things we’ve never known?
Our days were long though time was short
dreams came true or so I thought
we watched like fledglings, certain we could fly,
but you soared higher than I dared
as you took wing I stopped and stared
you never paused, you never wondered why.
And on your birthday absent friend
I bought a card I couldn’t send
I counted days, a tally on my wall,
but I was strong and you grew frail
as days grow long the memories fail
now I don’t stop to think of you at all.
