(verse) Windshield wipers moving/ Just like a metronome/ Too long; too far away/ Miles away from home. (chorus 1) I wonder if she is there/ Like a serpent hours creep/ Lying on her bed/ Behind the black wall of sleep. (verse) I've been driving down this highway/ Through the dead of night/ Sounds from my radio/ On sad wings of time. (verse) Note by note remembrance/ Let the sadness play/ Engrave them all on stone/ Songs from yesterday. (chorus 2) I wonder if she is there/ Like a serpent hours creep/ Eyes closed to the nightworld/ Behind the black wall of sleep. (coda) I've been driving down this highway/ Through the dead of night/ Headlights burning like a flame/ Through the night I ride.
